The Leacock Medal… what a thrill…

I’m at a loss for words. It’s been quite a day. Thank you all for your support throughout this little journey of mine.

Here’s the news release. Here’s the CBC story. And here’s some video from the actual event.

There’s a whole weekend of celebrations in June. I’m starting to work on my speech already. Time for some sleep… if I can…

I couldn’t be happier for you, Terry.

Congratulations, congratulations, a million times congratulations!

Terry, you are now a bonafide inspiration to self-published authors everywhere! Way to go!

    Terry:

Congratulations! As an indie writer who’s turned his back on traditional publishing and used new technologies to reach a worldwide audience, I celebrate your win. I know how difficult and time-consuming it is to go the self-published route (I’ve been doing it since 1990). New technologies like podcasting and POD mean that editors and agents no longer have a stranglehold on what gets read in this country. The trads will soon be as obsolete as dodos unless they change their modes of thinking–I’ve been saying for over two decades that most editors wouldn’t know a good book if it kicked them in the balls and your success is all the evidence I need to confirm that view. Good work, man, and more power to you. I guarantee you’ll be getting a call any day from Random House or Knopf Canada, maybe the folks at McClelland, humbly inquiring after rights.
Make them pay, brother, make them PAY through the fucking nose.

Terry, I just heard your interview on CBC Radio. Congratulations on your success I can’t wait to listen to the podcasts. Your story is a great inspiration for those trying to balance their day jobs with their day dreams to achieve the happiness you clearly have reached.
    Kudos Sir.

  7. […] I didn’t think I could be any more shocked than when I miraculously won the 2008 Leacock Medal…Wrong. When my name was called from the podium this afternoon in Orillia as the winner of the 2015 Leacock Medal for No Relation, I really didn’t know what had hit me. Had I heard correctly? Was that my name? Yes, and yes. I honestly didn’t think I was going to win. I can’t really explain why I felt that way, but I was convinced it wouldn’t happen this time around. And I was quite happy with that. I was thrilled to be a finalist. But it was in fact my name I’d just heard. It was. […]
